Financing Water and Sanitation for All in Africa, Ouagadougou Burkina Faso, 05-08 December 2011

Organised by:  Centre Africain pour l’Eau Potable et l’Assainissement (CREPA)

The meeting, which will be attended by about 200 participants from development organisations, bilateral and multi-lateral groups, civil society organisations as well as governments, will focus on the need to improve investment in the water and sanitation sector in Africa.

The four-day meeting will include an African Workshop on the pricing of water and sanitation services and sanitation, a ministerial dialogue, a round table of donors, and the launch of an African Forum on innovative local solutions in the field of hygiene, sanitation and drinking water supply.

2nd International Conference for Eau-Afrique: Water and Sustainable development in Africa, Libreville, Gabon, 14-16 Dec 2009

The 2nd International Conference of Eau-Afrique (Africa Water), entitled: Water and Sustainable development in Africa – Water and Rural Modernization: Case of Bateva in Gabon is organized in partnership with Eau-Afrique, the Health and Water African Foundation (HWAF), the Department of Geography of the University of Quebec in Montreal, the Centre INRS-ETE of the University of Quebec, the South-Atlantic Institute for High Sciences of Development of Gabon.

The main objective of the conference is to create awareness among all organizations working in the Water Sector on the importance of developing and implementing new approaches of intervention and collaboration, focusing on sustainable development in rural, semi-urban and urban areas.

Themes include:

  • water governance and institutional aspects, right to water
  • water availability, hygiene, water-borne diseases and the MDGs
  • integrated water resources management in Africa
  • water infrastructure (water supply, hydroelectricity, inter-basin water transfer, irrigation, waste water treatment).
  • climate change
  • education, capacity-building, transfer of knowledge
  • influencing government water policy
  • gender
  • science and technology in the water sector
  • case studies, including water and rural development of Bateva in Gabon

West Africa Regional Sanitation and Hygiene Symposium, Accra, Ghana, 10-12 Nov 09

This regional sharing and learning symposium is the first major event marking the collaboration between RCN Ghana, WaterAid, and IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre in West Africa.

Objectives:

  • To identify and share experiences of good practice in promotion of good hygiene behaviour and ensuring sustained access to sanitation in particular for the poor and vulnerable in West Africa;
  • To identify key policy messages based on these experiences to be promoted at subsequent advocacy opportunities;
  • To identify and initiate joint action-learning; and
  • To begin the process of developing a community of practice on sanitation and hygiene promotion at the West Africa level.
