International Water Forum at the United Nations, New York, NY, USA, 16 September 2011

Organised by: The Chronicles Group and Energy Water Institute of New York, in cooperation with the United Nations Institute of Training and Research (UNITAR), World Water Organization (WWO), and WaterAid America.

Held concurrently with the 66th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, the forum will discuss water issues in the United States as well as global water challenges. The main aim is to take the first step toward organising a worldwide education and awareness campaign on the global water crisis.

More than 500 individuals are expected to participate in the forum.

Sustaining the Blue Planet: Global Water Education Conference, Bozeman, Mont, USA, 13-17 September 2011

The Project WET Foundation, publisher of water resources education materials, is organising “the first conference to focus exclusively on water education and its role in solving the world’s pressing water issues”.

On September 16th, Danish actress Connie Nielsen, best known for her role in the film Gladiator opposite Russell Crowe—will discuss her work on sustainable sanitation solutions with the Human Needs Project in the Kibera slum, Nairobi, Kenya.

Presenters come from more than 20 countries and represent international organizations like UNESCO and UN-Habitat, multinational corporations including Intel, Microsoft, Google, Nestlé Waters and Abbott, government agencies such as USAID, NOAA and NASA, and primary and secondary schools as well as colleges and universities both in the United States and abroad. The Project WET Foundation will also unveil its new Project WET Curriculum & Activity Guide, Generation 2.0 and accompanying teacher portal as well as its new web experience for children, DiscoverWater.org.

2011 OU International WaTER Conference, Norman, OK, USA, 24-25 October 2011

Organised by the Water Technologies for Emerging Regions (WaTER) Center at the University of Oklahoma, the conference will bring together water and sanitation experts from academia, industry, NGOs, government and foundations.

Water and Health: Where Science Meets Policy, Chapel Hill, NC, USA, 23-26 October 2010

Organised by: Water Institute and Institute for the Environment at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

This conference will bring together individuals and experts from academia, industry, NGOs, government and foundations to provide an inter-disciplinary perspective spanning science, policy, practice, financing and economics on drinking water sanitation, hygiene and water resources with a strong public health emphasis. The conference will deal with critical concerns relevant to both the developing and developed worlds.

The UN-Water Global Annual Assessment of Sanitation and Drinking-Water (GLAAS) will be presented at the conference. “This will be the first public event at which such discussion is encouraged and organized and provides a means to both present the report to an expert audience and to secure feedback and comment on it.”

International Code Council World Toilet Summit, Philadelphia, PA, USA, 30 October – 3 November 2010

Electricity and Water Regulation: Next Generation Policies and Practices, IP3, USA, 03-14 October 2011 (6 CEUs)

In this training course participants will learn a number of advanced tools, techniques and models to regulate both public and private electric and water utilities that generate/source, transmit and distribute electricity/water services. Participants will acquire skills in increasing the effectiveness of resource acquisition, efficiency gains, environmental mandates, strategies to increase market confidence and implementing consumer protection programs.

Through presentations, case studies, simulated exercises and on-site meetings with leading electricity and water regulatory authorities and utilities, participants will gain new knowledge and skills and bring these to bear in developing their own plan of action for the management for regulatory commissions in their own countries.
